– Dr. Ron

Dr. Ron Siegel is an Assistant Professor of Psychology, part time, at Harvard Medical School, where he has taught for over 35 years. He is a long-time student of mindfulness meditation and serve on the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy and the faculties of the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion at the Cambridge Health Alliance and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He teaches internationally about mind-body medicine and the application of mindfulness and compassion practices in psychotherapy and other fields.

His clinical career has included working with low-income children and families, treating adults with chronic pain and other stress-related disorders, and providing mindfulness-oriented psychotherapy. He currently maintains a limited private clinical practice in Massachusetts.

Along with his colleagues, he has edited and written several books, including the critically acclaimed professional text, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, 2nd Edition; a comprehensive guide for general audiences, The Mindfulness Solution: Everyday Practices for Everyday Problems; the professional guides Sitting Together: Essential Skills for Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy and Wisdom and Compassion in Psychotherapy; and a step-by-step self-treatment guide Back Sense, which integrates mindfulness practice, aggressive rehabilitation, and mind-body approaches to treat chronic back and neck pain. he has also created a number of courses for general audiences, including The Science of Mindfulness: A Research-Based Path to Well-Being produced by The Great Courses, and Healing Through Mindfulness: Effective Practices for Chronic Health Conditions, produced by Sounds True. He is a regular contributor to various professional publications, and am co-director of the annual Harvard Medical School Conference on Meditation and Psychotherapy.

Dr. Dan Tomasulo — Learned Hopefulness, Science of Happiness and Hope, Cherishing Relationships, The Craft of Storytelling Writing, and Much More (#131)

Dr. Dan Tomasulo as one of the top ten online influencers on the issue of depression. He is the Academic Director and core faculty member at the Spirituality Mind Body Institute (SMBI), Teachers College, Columbia University, and holds a Ph.D. in psychology, MFA in writing, and a Master of Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He authors the daily column, Ask the Therapist, as well as the Learned Hopefulness blog for PsychCentral.com, and developed the Dare to be Happy experiential workshops for Kripalu. You can check out his blogs here.

His most recent book, Learned Hopefulness, The Power of Positivity To Overcome Depression, is hailed as: “…the perfect recipe for fulfillment, joy, peace, and expansion of awareness.”  by Deepak Chopra, MD: Author of Metahuman: Unleashing Your Infinite Potential. Martin Seligman, Ph.D., author of Flourish, adds: “This is the best go-to book on how to use hope to relieve your depression.” 

His award-winning memoir, American Snake Pit  (2018) tells of the first experimental group home releasing inmates from America’s most notorious asylum, Willowbrook, and his screenplay for American Snake Pit has won 35international film festival awards. From this early work Dan developed Positive-Interactive-Behavioral Therapy (P-IBT), now the most widely used form of group therapy for people with intellectual and psychiatric disabilities.

Dan is certified as a trainer, educator, and practitioner by the American Board of Examiners in psychodrama, sociometry, and group psychotherapy and is the 2017 winner of the International Positive Psychology Association’s Avant-Garde Clinical Intervention competition for the Virtual Gratitude Visit (VGV) and the 2019 winner of the case study competition for his research using psycho-dramatic methods to deliver positive interventions. Dan’s passion is Positive Psychology. While traditional psychology focuses on our weaknesses, positive psychology focuses on our strengths, cultivating our best selves so we can lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Kelly Boys is a trainer with the United Nations Foundation where she co-developed and works to deliver a mindfulness and well-being program called “Peace on Purpose” for UN humanitarian and development workers on the front lines. She has delivered programs with UNDP (UN Development Program), UNICEF, UNFPA (UN Population Fund), UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency), and UNRWA (UN Relief for Palestinian Refugees) from New York to the Middle East to Central Asia. She was the host of the Mindfulness Monthly Program with Sounds True Media Company, which launched February 2017, featuring interviews and fresh content with leading meditation teachers on various themes each month. Her book The Blind Spot Effect was released July, 2018 in English, May, 2019 in Spanish, and September, 2019 in Chinese.

She spent two years volunteering with James Fox of the Prison Yoga Project to create and deliver a weekly trauma-sensitive mindfulness and yoga program at San Quentin State Prison for incarcerated veterans, and has worked extensively in the field of trauma sensitive mindfulness, teaching meditation to US veterans with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

Kelly has been mentored for several years by clinical psychologist and founder of iRest Richard Miller, as well as psychotherapist John Prendergast, author of In Touch: How to Tune in to the Inner Guidance of Your Body and Trust Yourself, with whom she teaches retreats. She holds a degree in Intercultural Religious Studies and is a certified iRest® meditation teacher, Search Inside Yourself teacher, and is the founding advisor for the meditation app Simple Habit. She teaches retreats and workshops at spots like the Esalen Institute.
